All,
We are now required to file field research/study plans. This requirement
is independent of anything to do with COVID. To date only two of us have
filed those plans in any form (Kerry and Tim are the goody-two shoes). Any
PI (including via their students and staff) must file a plan with EHS if
the lab is doing off campus instruction and/or field work. Any field
classes or field instruction efforts must have a plan. There should be a
plan for each individual project/class. If, for example, you have
study areas in the Mojave and study areas in the Sierras, you will need two
plans, one for each. If you are collecting all over the state, I suggest
one plan may suffice as long as you include all areas on which you will be
working (I know it is a pain!)--it actually might be easier to have
multiple plans, one for each field location. Do the best you can for
international field research. Forms are required for any off-campus
research. AgOps is ON-CAMPUS. NRS is OFF-CAMPUS. Other ANR REC centers
are OFF-CAMPUS. I think Coachella Valley REC is OFF-CAMPUS (assume it is
until I get clarity). *Please get this as soon as you can.* Once
complete, submit your plans to Pam See (pamela.see at ucr.edu) and to me.
Ashley will maintain a copy in the Department (Head's up Ashley). If you
are not performing field research, please let Ashley know, so we do not
have to harass you further.
Below are the sites and examples to get you started.
1. Attached is the UCOP Field Operations Safety Manual (after reading the
thing, it would be advisable to have some of your people with first aid
training. UCR is working to provide an annual field first aid class that
includes everything you need for epipen training and the associated first
aid certificate you need for the Rx).
2. Attached are two example forms completed and accepted by EHS. Please
note the details required (Thank you Loralee!)
3. EHS Website to get you started: *https://ehs.ucr.edu/laboratory/field

4. Field Safety Plan Form (found on the above site, but here it is):

5. Attached is a word doc with the above two websites listed (just in case
you delete this email)
