All,
As I am already getting questions, let me clarify the current state of
affairs with regard to COVID guidelines.
1. We are still required to be under the provisions of CalOSHA established
in November of 2020. This means that as of today with the lifting of the
Governor's mandate, NOTHING has changed. While on campus, or while
performing work-related duties off campus (e.g. field work), you are still
required to wear masks, practice safe distancing, maintain 50% occupancy in
the labs, sanitize, etc. CalOSHA is meeting soon to see about next steps.
2. Many of you have seen both the Chancellor's and President's missives
about reopening. Here is what is coming for sure. In order to be on
campus, COVID vaccinations will be mandated (i.e. officially required) for
all faculty, students, staff, volunteers, etc. The only exceptions will be
for medical reasons and strictly verified religious reasons (I am told both
exceptions will be strictly enforced and verified). If you have not
received your vaccines yet, do so now as vaccination records will need to
be in place prior to the time we come back at 100% levels. I expect this
to be no later than Sept. 1, but it could be earlier. Once you get
vaccinated, and if you have already done so, please update your records to
the campus system. The form can be found here:

3. As of now, the policy for any options to work from home remains the
same as it was pre-COVID. Requests will be submitted to supervisors and
unit heads. I have made it known that all administrative staff are
expected to return to work full time when the time comes when we are
allowed to fully open up. Of course, we will endeavor to be flexible to
account for issues related to child and family member care should these
services not be available as they were pre-covid. Similarly, faculty
supervisors may work out remote options with their staff if those options
are acceptable to the PI.
4. Field work, field studies, and field classes: Stay tuned there is
another email coming this morning. Brace yourselves for more paperwork,
etc. The requirements for field work are independent of anything to do
with COVID.
