Dear User,
Our usage metrics indicate that you use basic authentication to connect to
Office 365 services.
*Please be advised that after December 31, 2021, you will no longer be able
to log into Office 365 using basic authentication.*
*What is basic authentication?*
This means that you may have apps and/or mobile devices that rely only on
username and password to connect to Office 365 services.
*How will my user experience change?*
After December 31, 2021, you must connect using modern two-step
authentication methods that require the use of your username, password, and
secondary authentication via UCR DUO

.
*Why is this change taking place?*
Multi-factor authentication keeps the entire Highlander community better
protected by requiring you to present two or more pieces of evidence to
verify it’s really you who is trying to access a secure campus service or
resource.
*What action do I need to take? *
· *Exchange users connecting using IMAP, POP, and SMTP* – These
connection methods will no longer be supported. Please upgrade to a modern
email client that supports Exchange or consider using Outlook Web:
https://outlook.office.com/mail
· *Outlook users* – Please upgrade to Office 2016 or Office 2016
with the latest updates, or use the M365 Suite to continue to use Outlook.
If your department subscribes to the campus Microsoft software agreement,
you can download office here: https://portal.office.com/account
· *iOS and Android users* – The recommended app is Outlook. You can
download it onto your device from the App Store or Google Play store. You
may use your native phone mail app if it supports connecting to Exchange
without using ActiveSync.
Thank you for your attention to this upcoming change.
