Dear All,

Please see the email below regarding the LA Urban Center 2024 Science Fellowship Program, the attached flyer has further information and application details.

I am writing to you on behalf of the Los Angeles Center for Urban Natural Resources Sustainability<http://laurbanresearchcenter.org/>, also known as simply the “LA Urban Center”. We are a partnership between the USDA Forest Service and the City of Los Angeles (City Plants<http://www.cityplants.org/> and Department of Recreation and Parks<https://www.laparks.org/>), as well as various non-profit environmental organizations. Our mission is to foster collaboration and generate scientific research, science delivery, and technology transfer to sustain the health and diversity of natural urban ecosystems and enhance the quality of life within the urban landscape of the Los Angeles metropolitan region.

Each academic year, the LA Urban Center offers a prestigious fellowship program<https://laurbanresearchcenter.org/fellowships/> that provides research and science delivery opportunities for graduate students from a diversity of academic disciplines and sociodemographic backgrounds. Please see the attached PDF for the 2024 Science Fellowship Program announcement; you can also view the announcement here: LA Urban Center 2024 Science Fellowship Program Announcement<https://laurbanresearchcenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/LA-Urban-Center-2024-Science-Fellowship-Program-Announcement.pdf>. We are asking that you share this opportunity with qualified and interested graduate students, as well as any faculty members or colleagues that may be interested in promoting the Fellowship.

Selected Fellows will have the option to conduct a one- or two-year project that contributes to the core mission and vision of the LA Urban Center. Selected proposals will receive non-renewable funding of $12,500 for one-year projects (September 2024 to June 2025) or $25,000 for two-year projects (September 2024 to June 2026) and are required to present main findings or showcase a developed product to researchers, practitioners, and general audiences. Each fellow is also expected to secure a project mentor with whom the Fellow will spend time working on project preparation and professional development.

Proposals must focus on one or both of the priority proposal areas (Community Forest Management and/or Nursery Management, please see additional information in the announcement) for a one-year or two-year project. Proposals that focus on one or more of the items in the bulleted list of potential projects under each proposal area will be prioritized; applicants may propose other projects not on the list, but all proposed projects must have strong relevance to one or both proposal areas.

The announcement contains important information on the themes of interest and requirements. Graduate students are invited to submit an application by Friday, July 26th, 2024 at 5:00 PM PT here: 2024 Science Fellowship Program Application<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScY7Nwb3umbh_oJl7jz2h9noJ0jDDh8jlM_NaoSnEQiShYPlw/viewform?usp=sf_link>. Please contact me with any questions regarding the program, and feel free to put students in contact with me directly. You can reach me via email at michelle.carr at usda.gov<mailto:michelle.carr at usda.gov>. Thank you!
