Dear Colleagues,
I am sharing information sent from Academic Council Chair Mary Gauvain and Vice Chair Robert Horwitz to Division Chairs and other Academic Council members about the survey of UC faculty and instructors regarding their experiences during March 2020-May 2021 of the COVID-19 pandemic. Also included is a link to the results of a Graduate Student Experience Survey. Please take a look. I plan to follow up with you soon about this and other related items.

Dear Council Members,
We have been working on the faculty survey data since the project finished up in late May and we have some updates on it to tell you about.
First, Provost Brown helped us forge a collaboration with Pamela Brown and her team at IRAP to organize the data into a report that is now up on the UC Information Center, here is the link (https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/faculty-instructor-remote-instruction-survey).
When you go to this site you will find the faculty survey results posted in a dashboard format that allows you to see the results overall and by campus. You will also be able to break down the results by gender, college/school, and job title. The tabs on the top margin let you see the results for different questions/topic areas of the survey. One caveat, not all the data are presented here. We trimmed down the dashboards to information we thought would be most useful and interesting for this general information page.
In addition to the faculty survey results, the UC Information Center has just posted results of the Graduate Student Experience Survey questions related to COVID-19 and remote instruction. Here is that link (https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/UCGSES-COVID-19-survey).
The second news about the survey is that we will be presenting the results at the Regents meeting this week during the meeting of the Academic and Students Affairs Committee. When items are presented in these meetings, they are described in a document that is included in the preparatory reading materials for the Regents called the Boardbooks. We wrote a description of the results and prepared a set of power point slides for our presentation. We have attached these here for you to see.
Finally, we have attached the final version of the survey. There you can see the whole set of questions. If there are other results you want from the survey, we can talk with you about them and look into how to get them to you if it would be useful. One thing you need to know. We will probably need to do the data extraction and preparation on our own, IRAP will not be able to help us. So we ask for your understanding here.
One last point, about the open-ended comments. There were many responses to these six questions, in fact one question generated over 2700 replies, and many are quite lengthy. We have found them very useful to read through and they have shaped our presentation, but they are not appropriate to share for several reasons. We do not have permission from the participants to share their open ended comments. Also, many include identifying information either about the respondents themselves or other campus individuals, and it would breach their confidence in us and the Academic Senate more generally to share this information. We could possibly develop a redacted version, but that would be extremely time consuming and we are not sure how we would go about it at this point and make it useful for more general consumption.
