Subject: Two tenure-track faculty positions at Rhode Island College- application deadline April 10, 2022
Importance: High

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am the Chair of the Biology Department at Rhode Island College and I wanted to inform you about two tenure-track faculty positions that we are seeking to fill. Rhode Island College is a mid-sized institution of about 6400 students located in a suburban setting in Providence. We service a diverse student population with over 40% of the undergraduates are students of color and over 45% are the first in their family to attend college. Recently, RIC was federally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). We seek candidates whose background, teaching interests, and research agenda will help foster diversity with the College. The Department of Biology offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology, Health Sciences, and Medical Imaging as well as a minor in biology. We also have a graduate program offering a M. A. and a Certificate of Graduate Study. In addition, the Biology Department provides courses taken by students in other programs across the campus, such as Nursing and Education. Faculty within the Biology Department have the potential to access state-wide funding opportunities: RI-EPSCOR and RI-INBRE. As a small state in New England, Rhode Island has much to offer with proximity to beaches, wooded areas, and the cultural and academic resources found in Providence and nearby Boston and New York.

As you can see from the attached combined job description, one position is for a coastal ecologist/marine biologist while the other position calls for someone with training in anatomy and/or physiology. Although the successful candidate is expected to develop a research program involving undergraduates and Master’s students, the primary focus of this position is education. Both positions start in August 2022 and interested applicants may apply through the RIC website (https://employment.ric.edu/). As an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution which values and is committed to expanding the diversity of its faculty and staff, Rhode Island College invites members of protected classes, including minorities and persons with disabilities, to identify themselves as such at the time of application. The closing date for applications is April 10, 2022.

I would appreciate it if you could forward this email and its attachments to anyone who might be interested in applying for these positions, such as students completing their Ph.D. requirements and post-docs. While more information about the Biology Department can be found on-line (http://www.ric.edu/department-directory/department-biology), applicants may also contact me directly at dkolibachuk at ric.edu<mailto:dkolibachuk at ric.edu> and I will gladly answer their questions.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you have a great day.

Sincerely,

Dana Kolibachuk
