Dear all,
A reminder regarding the notice that was distributed to VCSA management last week: VCSA Technology Services will upgrade staff to Microsoft's current office suite, Office 2007 on October 28th. The upgrade process will vary depending on the type of system:
n Thin Client Users: The server upgrades will take place one to two days prior to the conversion, during which time users may experience intermittent slowness. Thin Client servers will be taken offline at 5pm on October 27th and the Office upgrade will be installed across all thin client users. Staff returning to work on Wednesday, October 28th will log in and automatically have the Office upgrade applied to their account.
n Managed Desktop Users: Staff using desktop/laptop PCs managed by Technology Services will be sent a web link that will automatically download and install both upgrades to the Oracle calendar connector for Outlook as well as Office 2007. These users will be able to upgrade at a time that is convenient for them. An email containing the web link will be sent on October 27th. The link will also be posted at http://help.ucr.edu.
n Other VCSA Staff:
o Unmanaged Desktop Users: Staff whose desktop/laptop PC is not managed by Technology Services will also be sent the web link to download and install the Oracle/Office upgrade package, and will be encouraged to upgrade. If their PC does not meet the minimum system requirements for Office '07, staff will be provided a link to the Office 2003 "compatibility pack" which will allow them to open and edit Office 2007 documents sent to them by others.
o Campus Health Center and AVC-Housing Units will upgrade at a later date and will not be affected by this rollout.
If you are interested in learning more about Office 2007 Microsoft offers a free Tips and Tricks for MS Office 2007 webcast available at this link: https://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/WebCastEventDetails.aspx?EventID=1032397370&EventCategory=3&culture=en-US&CountryCode=US.
