No Smoking.jpg
Hundreds of thousands of lives each year are lost due to smoking related
causes, and campuses and communities across the country are finding more and
more ways to combat the problem. From policy and other environmental
approaches, to education and cessation support, we all have a responsibility
to address this health concern as a collective community.
Many smokers say that stress is often and reason they smoke. As part of the
Wellness Event Series, the following workshop was intentionally placed
during Tobacco Awareness Week to help those who smoke for stress-related
reasons find healthier ways to manage their stress.
Stress Management Workshop
Monday, November 17th
3:00PM, Commons 268
Stress is something that in some form or another impacts all of us. Certain
levels of stress are normal and can even be healthy, but too often it can
also get overwhelming and unhealthy when not effectively managed. This
workshop will discuss the many ways we can manage our stress.
Smokers and non-smokers alike can find all of the information and resources
they need on a wide variety of tobacco issues, including chewing tobacco and
hookah. From educational information, to support resources to help someone
quit, the following are offered to help everyone find the support they need
to address tobacco concerns on campus.
Information Tables
Tuesday through Thursday, November 18-20
11AM-1:30PM
Come pick up literature and other information, sign a pledge card, or
participate in our interactive, educational activities. Smokers can sign a
pledge card to make an honest effort to quit and get a "Quit Kit" filled
with various support resources to help them with this difficult challenge.
Non-smokers can sign a pledge to remain non-smokers and support those they
care about who want to quit, and in return will get one of our popular "HOT
. . . But Not Smoking!" t-shirts (while supplies last). So come find out
how you too can contribute to a healthier UCR campus climate and community,
by making healthy choices yourself and supporting those who are trying to
make positive changes in their life!
Smoking and other tobacco use is a leading cause of a wide variety of health
risks, including lung capacity/function and other fitness related concerns.
So the Fitness Fridays portion of the Wellness Event Series brings you the
following program to help individuals assess their personal fitness, and
provide an opportunity to discuss them with a campus professional or
resource.
Fitness Testing
November 21, 11AM-1PM, Commons 260
In an effort to provide a convenient opportunity for students to access
basic fitness assessment and feedback, this session will allow students to
test and discuss body fat/composition, flexibility, grip strength and other
good information. The emphasis will be to provide a convenient and
comfortable atmosphere for those seeking this information and opportunity.
