Do you work with UC Riverside students who have expressed an interest in
learning more about the field of Student Affairs?

The National Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP) is the college recruitment
program for The National Association for Student Personnel Administrators
(NASPA). It is a mentoring program for undergraduate students wishing to
explore and better understand the field of student affairs and/or higher
education.

The mission of the program is to increase the number of persons that are not
normally represented in student affairs and higher education. This would
include underrepresented minorities, persons with disabilities, women, and
persons who identify themselves as LGBT.

NUFP provides a wonderful opportunity in that it is the student who
structures the program. This program gives participants the opportunity to
attend student affairs conferences, participate in volunteer and paid
internships, and learn from current Student Affairs Administrators.

There are currently over 150 NUFP Interns at over 100 Universities
throughout the country. At UC Riverside, we are looking to host up to 3
students to participate in this program.

UC Riverside's NUFP interns have shadowed academic advisors, assisted and
implemented community service, helped with various retention programs, as
well as worked with the various student program organizations and offices on
campus. They have represented their campus and gained ample experience in
student affairs.

Please contact Jennifer Miller in 381 Commons (951-827-5000) or at
jennifer.miller at ucr.edu for an application. Applications are due Friday,
April 11th, 2008 to Jen Miller.

Applications can also be found at: http://www.naspa.org/programs/

What will NUFP
help your students become?

Dear NASPA Colleague,

  <http://www.naspa.org/images/postcard_040108kidsw.gif>

The <http://www.naspa.org/nufp> NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP)
welcomes applications from prospective Fellows for the 2008-2009 academic
year. NUFP is a semi-structured mentoring program for undergraduate students
of ethnic minorities, students with disabilities, and/or students who
identify as LGBT who are interested in exploring the fields of student
affairs and higher education. Through NUFP's program elements, which include
on-campus mentorship by a NASPA member, a summer internship, a summer
leadership institute, and conference participation, students are exposed to
and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a student affairs
professional. More detailed information about the program, including its
history, learning outcomes, and application process, is available on the
NUFP Web site <http://www.naspa.org/nufp> .

The support of student affairs administrators, such as yourself, is
essential to the success of this program. Therefore, I encourage you to
think about students who would benefit from the program and encourage them
to apply. Feel free to share the electronic version of our brochure or the
program Web site with students and colleagues. Completed applications must
be received in the NASPA office by April 25, 2008. This deadline will allow
Fellows to begin their campus-based mentorship at the start of the fall 2008
academic year.

My vision is that NUFP Fellows will be the future leaders in higher
education administration. NASPA welcomes the participation of you, your
campus, and your students.

Sincerely,

 Shelia Higgs Burkhalter
