As part of our ongoing data security and privacy initiatives, we have updated the way employee eligibility information is transmitted to selected benefits vendors.
Effective June 2026, Social Security Numbers (SSNs) will no longer be included in the eligibility files sent by UCPath to ARAG Legal plan, Postdoc plan providers Gallagher, and Principal. Moving forward, a unique identifier consisting of a “9” prefix followed by the employee’s UCPath Employee ID (9 + EEID) will be used in place of the SSN.
Impact on the employee experience
This is strictly an administrative update. Please be assured that this transition will not disrupt participant coverage or change the day‑to‑day experience when utilizing the benefits.
If employees have questions about how to identify themselves when contacting these vendors or the providers, please review the following guidance:
* ARAG Legal Plan: Representatives will verify members using the full name, home address, and employer name. If additional information is needed to locate the employee record, the employee may provide the Employee ID.
POSTDOC EMPLOYEES ONLY
* Gallagher: When postdocs contact Gallagher’s dedicated service representatives, enrollment information will be located using either the postdoc’s first and last name or the Health Net medical ID number.
* Principal: When calling Principal, postdoc members will be asked to provide the Privacy ID (PID) located on the Principal ID card, along with the full name (and the covered dependent’s name, if applicable). For security, Principal representatives will also request two additional standard pieces of verification (such as the member or dependent date of birth, employer name, address, date of employment, phone number, or policy/account number).
No action is required by locations or employees regarding this file update.
