We look forward to your attendance at the Innovative Research Orientation
presented by UCR and Google Cloud, taking place on *Monday, March 13, 2023*.
*Updates: *
Please note that *the location of this event has been changed to HUB 302
South* to accommodate the number of folks who have expressed interest in
this event.
Additionally, please note that the Machine Learning in Google Cloud session
will now take place at 1 PM and the Analyzing Data with Notebooks session
will now take place at 1:45 PM. You can find the updated agenda on the ITS

Today news about the pivotal partnership between UCR and Google Cloud was

- Check-in opens at 8:30 AM, at which point you will be invited to enjoy
a continental breakfast
- The orientation will commence at 9:00 AM with an introduction by UCR

- Lunch will be provided at 11:00 AM (taco bar with vegetarian options)
- If you would prefer to have a graduate student, lab assistant, or
fellow researcher attend a session(s) on your behalf, please be sure to

Volker Eyrich, Ph.D.
*Customer Engineer & Practice Lead, Google*
Dr. Eyrich is a scientist, technologist, and high-performance computing
(HPC) subject matter expert with a background in advanced data analysis.
Having received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University, he has two
decades of hands-on experience with software development, product
management, and support of advanced computationally intensive applications.
Charles Elliott
*Enterprise Data and Research, Emory University*
Field Chief Technology Officer of Education, Google
Mr. Elliot is a researcher, educator, advisor, and data innovator who has
worked with Fortune 500 companies to implement, support, and customize
analytics applications and platforms across a variety of industries,
including Higher Education. He is passionate about customer success and
currently leads a team of analytics architects and consultants. He
specializes in a number of analytics applications including but not limited
to Looker, Oracle BI and OBIEE, Tableau, and Microsoft Power BI.
Derek Oliver
*Practice Lead, Infrastructure/Application Modernization, Google *
Mr. Oliver is focused on aligning scalable, secure, resilient, and
performant solutions to customer business objectives to solve difficult
challenges, increase flexibility, and accelerate enterprise modernization.
Having earned his MBA from Indiana University and Masters of Science in
Operations Research from Naval Postgraduate School, Mr. Oliver has over 10
years of technology experience.
