Dear all,

Please distribute to your networks and encourage suitable candidates to
apply. https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/23899 The deadline is
February 28.

Cornell University’s Critical Inquiry into Values, Imagination, and Culture
initiative (
*https://provost.cornell.edu/academic-initiatives/radical-collaboration/civic/*
<https://provost.cornell.edu/academic-initiatives/radical-collaboration/civic/>)
invites applications for a two-year Post-MFA or Postdoctoral Associate in
Interactive Media and Digital Games. The appointment will be for a period
of two years, beginning August 1, 2023.

We seek a dynamic practitioner and thinker who can relate the historical
and emerging issues of game design and interactive media to a liberal arts
curriculum while supporting radically interdisciplinary forms of inquiry.
The position is open to any area of game design, development, and critical
practice; we are particularly interested in candidates with innovative
approaches to audio, haptics, and/or other sensory modalities, especially
as they intersect with issues of indigeneity, race, gender, sexuality, and
disability.

In addition to developing their own research and practice by participating
in the academic life of the CIVIC initiative, the successful candidate will
convene weekly meetings and collaborate with Cornell faculty members Jodi
Byrd, Andrew Campana, Julia Chang, María Fernández, Roger Moseley, and
Walker White, the CIVIC research fellows in Interactive Media and Games.
The Post-MFA or Postdoctoral Associate will deliver at least one public
presentation of their research each year and will also teach two courses
per year, which could include foundational as well as intermediate and
advanced classes, to be determined in consultation with the CIVIC research
fellows and relevant department chairs. The Associate will also be invited
to join the Cornell Media Studies collective, which runs a series of
colloquia and fosters ways for faculty members from across the university
to share materials and ideas (see *https://mediastudies.as.cornell.edu*
<https://mediastudies.as.cornell.edu/> for further details). Benefits: The
CIVIC research fellows will serve as faculty mentors to the Associate and
assist with their professional development. The Associate is required to be
in residence at Cornell during the semesters of their tenure, but is free
to conduct fieldwork, research, and development elsewhere during the summer
or winter breaks. Eligibility: Applicants must have received the MFA, PhD,
or equivalent degree no earlier than January 1, 2020. Applicants who will
complete all requirements for the MFA or PhD degree before August 2023 are
also eligible to apply. This completion date for the degree will under no
circumstances be waived or extended. Applications: Applications must be
submitted through Academic Jobs Online. Please submit (1) a letter of
interest; (2) a CV; (3) a teaching philosophy and short descriptions (ca.
100 words) of two proposed courses; (4) a brief statement of
artistic/critical orientation; (5) a statement of contribution to
diversity, equity, and inclusion (see
*https://facultydevelopment.cornell.edu/information-for-faculty-candidates/*
<https://facultydevelopment.cornell.edu/information-for-faculty-candidates/>
for
further information); (6) contact information for three referees; and (7)
examples of creative and/or scholarly work (playable games, design
documents, artwork, music, research papers, essays, etc.). Materials must
be received before February 1, 2023, if they are to receive full
consideration. Please limit application materials to those requested above;
short-listed candidates may be asked to provide additional information.
Questions about the position or the application process should be addressed
to Roger Moseley (rsm253 at cornell.edu). Cornell University is an affirmative
action equal opportunity employer and educator.

*Diversity and Inclusion are a part of Cornell University's heritage. We
are a recognized employer and educator valuing AA/EEO, Protected Veterans,
and Individuals with Disabilities. We also recognize a lawful preference in
employment practices for Native Americans living on or on or near Indian
reservations.*
