[Sa-staff] Staff Assembly Advocacy - June 3rd Press Confernece

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update regarding some recent advocacy efforts that could significantly impact UCR:

Staff Assembly's Vice President/President Elect Agam Patel and I just returned from Sacramento where we met with several offices of elected Inland officials including Assemblymembers Jose Medina, Eduardo Garcia, and Freddie Rodriguez, and Senators Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, Richard Pan, Richard Roth, Melissa Melendez, and John Laird.

We joined a group of UCR alumni, staff and faculty colleagues, and senior leaders who advocated in support of the "Inland Rising" proposal AB 2046<https://trackbill.com/bill/california-assembly-bill-2046-university-of-california-inland-rising-fund/2226578/>, co-authored by Assemblymember Medina, which would provide nearly $1.4 billion for increasing staffing, faculty, and enrollment, tackling climate change, and training healthcare workers at UC Riverside and UC Merced.

For UCR, state approval of this bill would be a gamechanger, with hundred of millions of dollars for additional critical funding in many core areas.

Here's where you can help:

On Friday, June 3rd, at 10:30 am, Assemblymember Medina's office has scheduled a press conference in University Village in front of the movie theatre to support the Inland Rising bill. Several TV news affiliates are expected to cover the event and Chancellor Wilcox has also been invited to attend.

Medina's office has asked us to reach out to our networks to encourage people to attend to illustrate that this is truly a bill that will transform our entire community. If you're available, we'd love to see you there to help us represent UCR and staff. Please also share the news amongst your networks.
