What to Expect During the Grants.gov Cloud Migration and
Extended Downtime for September 2022

Grants.gov is being migrated to the cloud. To ensure a smooth and successful transition, an extended period of downtime has been scheduled for Grants.gov.

Although the transition is expected to be completely seamless to applicants, we have compiled the following Q&A to address the primary questions and concerns of applicants regarding the migration.

Why is Grants.gov being migrated to the cloud?  Migrating Grants.gov to the cloud will provide many benefits, including:
*        Fewer maintenance outages,
*        Better availability and performance,
*        Increased scalability, agility, and flexibility,
*        Improved security,
*        Providing a modern infrastructure better able to support future system       enhancements, and
*        Providing an overall improved user experience.

When will Grants.gov be offline?   Grants.gov will be offline during the following period:

  *   Grants.gov will go Offline Friday, September 23, 2022, at 12:01 AM ET.
  *   Grants.gov will come back Online Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 11:59 PM ET.

All registered System-to-System (S2S) users have been notified of the technical updates that may be required to maintain S2S connectivity with Grants.gov.

In case of unexpected issues or changes to the downtime schedule, we will post updates to the Grants.gov Alerts<https://grants-gov.blogspot.com/> page.

  *   What about proposal submissions due in late September/early October?   Because the production environment for grants.gov will be down September 23rd-29th:

  *   Users will not be able to download or update opportunities, submit applications, or get a status updates while Grants.gov is offline.
     *   That means if a user enters an opportunity ID in CayuseProposal, it will not be able to communicate with the Grants.gov site to pull in the required forms.
  *   The October 5th NIH deadline is one of our largest, and this downtime needs to be factored in to ensure timely proposal submission.  If you haven't done so already, download the opportunity ID in Cayuse prior to the Grants.gov cloud migration.

NSF programs to stop accepting proposals via FastLane website

The FastLane website (fastlane.nsf.gov) is scheduled to be removed as a submission option for NSF funding opportunities in January 2023. Some programs in NSF's Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate have already stopped accepting proposals through FastLane, and others will stop accepting them over the remainder of 2022.

The transition from the FastLane website to Research.gov and Grants.gov is part of NSF's ongoing information technology modernization efforts.
