Subject: BSF Call for Preproposals on Climate Solutions

Dear Colleague,

The US-Israel BSF aims to make a positive contribution to the development of climate solutions through cross-disciplinary, collaborative research projects between the two countries. Therefore BSF has launched a bi-annual call for cross-disciplinary proposals that advance the conceptualization, development and/or implementation of climate solutions. The new initiative will focus on how aspects of climate related processes can be offset by novel technologies, regulations, policy etc.

BSF is pleased to announce an invitation for 5-page preproposals (deadline 1 April 2022) proposing cross-disciplinary, US-Israel collaborative studies that develop transformative concepts and ideas towards climate solutions. These ideas/concepts address the impacts of climate change on the natural environment as well as on human populations, their distributions and economic activities.

Interested scientists are invited to form teams of experts that address the goals of this call for proposals and consult the attached document. Should questions arise regarding the scope of this call for proposals and technical details of submission then please contact BSF staff for consultation.

Inspired by a comment in a recent "Secret Life of a Research Administrator" article by Sandra Justice<https://www.srainternational.org/blogs/srai-news/2021/10/13/the-secret-life-of-a-research-administrator-sandra>, the Catalyst Committee started wondering if you could finish the phrase: "You might be a research administrator if..." ...your clients are physicians, lawyers, physicists, astronomers, historians, musicians, microbiologists, geneticists, data scientists, engineers, astrophysicists, biochemists, pharmacologists, veterinarians, dentists, nurses, philosophers, authors, political scientists, biologists, environmental scientists, teachers, architects...
...you know Fastlane isn't just the far-left lane on the interstate.
...90% of your sentences contain acronyms.
...you care more about whether it's 5:00 local time than 5:00 somewhere.
...you have experienced "Deadline Day Drama" (DDD) because a sponsor's system crashed before you received a principal investigator's final proposal for submission. (Fortunately, the deadline was extended!)
