At a recent PPS Users Group meeting, some issues were raised with
respect to the Unemployment Insurance Termination Report. Specifically,
some asked why it was necessary to complete the UI Termination Report
and raised a workload concern, particularly in larger departments where
there are numerous employee separations on a regular basis.

As Campus Policy 600-75 indicates, the form provides information
regarding the circumstances surrounding an employee separation that is
central to determining whether an individual would be eligible for UI
benefits. For that reason the Labor Relations Office requests that
departments continue to prepare and submit these reports as workload
permits, particularly for career and limited appointees separations.

Since student employees infrequently file for UI benefits, it is not as
essential that a termination report be prepared for this category of
employees as it is for the above-mentioned type of appointments.

Likewise, if a department was unaware of the requirement to complete the
UI Termination Report and did not prepare one for separations that
occurred during the last three years (retention period), it is not
necessary that they complete one now given the workload this task would
amount to, particularly for large departments; however they should
prepare one for new separations.
