It is my pleasure to announce that Cynthia Wells has joined the Office of
Research as Assistant Director, Sponsored Programs Administration and may be
reached at cynthia.wells at ucr.edu or 951-827-4918. Cynthia will join
Assistant Director Charles Greer in leading the Sponsored Programs teams,
negotiating complex agreements, and participating in the development and
delivery of contract and grant administration training to the campus. In
addition, both Assistant Directors will be responsible for the day-to-day
operations of Sponsored Programs Administration and will join me in
developing and implementing strategic plans and setting organizational
goals.
Cynthia received her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration
from the University of the Pacific. She received her Juris Doctor degree
from Western State University College of Law, and she holds a Certificate in
International Legal Studies from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge
School of Law in conjunction with Salzburg University Faculty of Law. She
comes to us from UC Irvine where she was a Principal Contract and Grant
Officer since January 2001. Prior to her UC service, she was a Major
Subcontracts Administrator for seven years, first with Northrop Grumman and
then with Boeing.
For those of you who may not have received Vice Chancellors Louis' August
message regarding material transfer agreements, I'm pleased to announce that
Kerwin Lawrence has been appointed to the position of Material Transfer
Officer. In his new role, Kerwin will be responsible for advising faculty,
researchers, research support personnel and departmental/unit staff about
matters involving the transfer of research materials; negotiating and
executing material transfer agreements (incoming and outgoing),
confidentiality agreements, and visiting scientist agreements; and
facilitating compliance with U.S. export control laws.
Please join me in welcoming Cynthia and Kerwin to their new positions. Both
of them are looking forward to working with the campus community to
facilitate the conduct of research and promote UCR's research enterprise.
Bruce Morgan
