Dear faculty,
Please see the email below from Academic Personnel and attached documents
regarding NSP. If you wish to participate and meet the criteria listed
below, please submit your paperwork to you BMP Analyst *by April 10* to
allow time for them to review the forms. APSU's deadline is April 17.
The Negotiated Salary Program (NSP) (see APM 672
<https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/apm/apm-672.pdf>)
allows eligible ladder-rank faculty (50% or more in-residence) to
contribute external funding resources toward their total University of
California (UC) salary. The NSP, like the well-established Health Sciences
Compensation Plan (HSCP), allows faculty to utilize external fund sources
to support a portion of their total compensation.
Important Principles
1. Each participating faculty member meets Good Standing Criteria,
understands development of Good Standing criteria and process of
appeal/reconsideration.
2. Each participating faculty member is required to generate the
additional negotiated income.
3. Each participating faculty member maintains teaching and service
activities commensurate with rank and department.
4. Additional compensation for a faculty member may not be at the
expense of support of graduate students and postdocs. Rather, additional
external funding must be obtained to support participation.

Dear All,
Please see the attached documents and the email below from the central
Academic Personnel Office (APO) regarding the 2026-27 Negotiated Salary
Program (NSP). Below are the published deadline dates for submittal of
these requests:
* NSP Packet due to CNAS April 17, 2026**
* NSP Packet due to Dean May 1, 2026*
* NSP Packet due to VPAP May 15, 2026*
Instead of establishing a contingency fund, the Dean’s Office will provide
necessary funds in the rare event that NSP specified funding becomes
unavailable due to a revoked award or similar unexpected circumstance. *Any
and all funds provided by the Dean’s Office to uphold the NSP contract are
considered a loan and must be repaid by the faculty member from their 5%
F&A return*. The funds can be repaid over multiple years if the loan
amount exceeds a single year’s F&A return.
A supplement to Form B (see attached excel spreadsheet) was developed to
help gather all necessary elements for the financial side of NSP
participation with more accurate projections of costs. Departments are
encouraged to utilize this form within the NSP request packet.
While the APO published deadline for the Dean review is May 1st, *CNAS is
asking proposals to be submitted by April 17** so we have sufficient time
to verify the forms for accuracy and completeness, and obtain the
appropriate signatures. *Please forward your proposals to Cherie Pierce,
Ashley Lawson and myself*.
Please share this information with faculty, Chairs and administrative staff
in your Departments. Feel free to have faculty and staff contact Cherie
Pierce directly for any questions, including requests for training.
