Good morning,

We have received an update regarding the outage noted below. The building
will remain closed for the rest of the day while Facilities works to
resolve the issue.

We understand that researchers may need to access their labs to unplug or
secure equipment to prevent potential power surge damage when power is
restored. If anyone from your team needs to enter the building, please have
them email me upon entry and exit of Boyce Hall. This will serve as our
check-in/check-out method. This will help us track who has accessed the
building.

Please ensure the buddy system is used so no one is entering alone, and
bring a flashlight as a precaution. We will share additional updates as
soon as they become available.

Thank you,

Hi Everyone,

I know people are anxious to get into the buildings to unplug/secure
equipment to prevent power surge damage as the power comes back on. Please
tell your teams to institute the buddy system so people are not unescorted
into the building, one holding a flashlight while the other carries out
necessary tasks. There should be a "check-in/check-out" process so we can
track who goes in and who goes out to account for all entries to the
building. Facilities/EH&S were going to tag Boyce Hall with caution tape
due to the power outage but we do understand there are necessary tasks that
research teams need to attend to.

The latest on the power outages in Boyce and Keen Hall:

1. Boyce Hall-The pipe burst in the interstitial/core of Boyce that caused
the initial flooding which led to the power outage for Boyce,
Batchelor/Keen, and SOM was repaired. A new leak was just reported and the
plumbing technicians are on site to troubleshoot and repair. There is
still a transformer and fuses that need to be repaired but flooding in the
basement in high voltage areas is impacting the ability to bring the
building power back on. I am still waiting to hear the status of using a
backup generator to Boyce, there will be generator provided today.
FYI-Vivarium on the 6th floor of Boyce has its own dedicated backup power
generator, they have power.

2. Keen Hall-My understanding is there are some fuses/electrical equipment
currently under repair to bring power back to this section of the building.

3. Batchelor Hall-The building is currently operating on backup power.

I will send more updates as I receive them but you are also welcome to
reach me via Zoom, telephone as needed. Thank you all for your patience
and assistance during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Sabrina
