[IIGB_All] U-SPARC paid undergraduate research opportunities

Hi everyone,

If you are teaching this quarter, could you please distribute the undergraduate research opportunity described below in your courses? I have attached a Powerpoint slide if you would like to post it at the beginning of a lecture. If you already have undergraduate students in your lab you may also encourage them to apply.

If you are interested in mentoring one or more U-SPARC students in your lab, please get in touch with me and/or Carolyn Rasmussen. The students will be paid by the U-SPARC program.

U-SPARC (“Underrepresented Students Pursuing Agriculture-Related Careers”) is an undergraduate research program at UC Riverside that is now in its fourth year of funding from the US Department of Agriculture. The aim of the program is to introduce UCR students to the possibilities of agricultural, biotechnology, or plant science-related careers through research experiences and exposure to different career options. U-SPARC fellows are connected with UCR research labs in which they perform paid research during the academic school year and summer. In addition, U-SPARC provides guidance in how to find jobs and how to achieve different career goals after completion of an undergraduate degree.
