Dear Grads,

With winter break rapidly approaching, the GSA Executive Board would like
wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday season and a happy new year!

In this week's newsletter, you will find information concerning:

**1.  Finals Sweets and Treats – Thursday @ 1 pm and Friday @ 11 am ***

Don't forget that the GSA Party Committee is hosting a "Sweets and Treats"
social each day this week.  In the Commons Graduate Student Lounge (room
383, by the rotunda), on Thursday (12/13) from 1 to 2 pm and on Friday
(12/14) from 11 am to 12 pm, there will be free coffee, tea, hot chocolate,
and snacks for graduate students.  So be sure to swing by during finals week
to check out our very own Commons Lounge and enjoy some "sweets and treats"
compliments of your Party Committee!

2.  UCSA Board of Directors Meeting @ UCR Dec 15th, 2007*

The University of California Student Association (UCSA) is having their
December Board meeting at Riverside on Dec 15. This is a great opportunity
to meet other UC Students, and there will be a special election for the UCSA
President. Join us at the Senate Chambers, 2nd Floor of the Commons at 10am.

*3.  Sustainable UCR*

The student organization Sustainable UCR is a student run coalition of UCR
students, faculty, and staff dedicated to promoting sustainable, green
practices on our campus.  They are starting an organic, sustainable garden
on campus.  If you are interested in serving on the organizational board, or
would like to help with the garden, please email Lisa Gariboldi at
lgari001 at ucr.edu and be sure to include relevant skills and experience, as
well as the role you would like to play.

Sustainable UCR also has a recycling initiative and is looking for
volunteers.   If you would like  to help, or want more information, email
Sirena at  swu009 at ucr.edu.

***4.  UC Student Regent*

Being Student Regent it is a two-year commitment.  The first year is served
as "Regent-Designate" and the second as a voting member to the Board of
Regents. For more information go to:

If you wish to apply, simply fill out an application at the GSA office or
electronically at the link provided above.  Applications are due by February
21st, 2008.

*5.  Teaching Opportunity UCR Upward Bound*

UB is Seeking instructors for Academic Enrichment courses for high school
students as part of Saturday Academies.  Upward Bound is a federally funded
outreach program for first generation, low income high school students, part
of the TRIO program. Interested parties, please contact Lena Tisdale
lenat at ucr.edu

*6.  GSA Conference Chair*

We are currently searching for our 3rd Annual GSA Conference Chair.  This
year's interdisciplinary conference will be held in the Spring and will
feature graduate student talks, posters and performances.  Interested
parties, please contact please send a cover letter and resume or CV to
gsaucr at ucr.edu

*7.  AAO Graduate School of Education*

If you are a graduate student (teaching credential, masters or PhD) at the
Graduate School of Education, we need you.  There is an opening as an
Academic Affairs Officer, please send your resume or CV and a cover letter
to gsaucr at ucr.edu

***8.  The Search for the next UC President *

The UC is looking for a new President of the system, as President Dynes
resigned in August. UCSA just appointed students from across the system for
the Student Advisory Committee.

The committee wants your stories/concerns! Tell us: What are things that
make it hard to attend a UC? What do you want the next UC President to work
on to make the UC better for students? Don't let these questions limit you;
we want to hear about any problems or concerns. Post or send your stories on
the UC Student Association Blog at: http://ucstudents.blogspot.com/

*9.  Register to vote - Deadline for Primaries is Jan 21!*

Voter registration cards are available in the GSA office. Stop by to fill
one out if you have just moved to CA, if you have moved recently, or want to
update your political party or any other information.

GSA will mail the form in for you; just leave it with the GSA EVP Louise
Hendrickson or the ASUCR EVP Alex Johnson at the GSA/ASUCR offices!

The Voter Registration Deadline for the Primary Elections is January 21st,
2008, so make sure you are registered before then!
