University Teaching Certificate (UTC) Program - Application Open

The University of California, Riverside's Graduate Division created the University Teaching Certificate (UTC) Program as a two-quarter instructional training and certification program for graduate students. This highly competitive program is designed to assist graduate students interested in careers as university-level instructors to develop teaching and lecturing strategies, design a teaching philosophy, and become members of the professional teaching community. The goal of the UTC program is to equip graduate students with the necessary skills so that they can be regarded as both outstanding scholars and teachers in their continued work in academia. Ph.D. students and Master's students are welcome to apply. Postdocs may also apply, but will not receive the four units of UCR credit if they are accepted.

This program is not an orientation to teaching, but instead constructs tools to level up teaching for graduate students who are hoping to enter the job market soon. With this in mind, we recommend students in their third year of their PhD or later to apply, or students in their second year of their Master's program. This program is especially important for students who would like to pursue teaching careers at a community college, small liberal arts college, or teaching faculty positions at a R1 institution.

To apply, students must submit an application, a letter of recommendation, and three quarters of teaching evaluations. Applications are now open for the Fall 2024 - Winter 2025 cohort, and they will close at 9:00am on Tuesday, May 28th. More information about the program and directions to the application can be found at tadp.ucr.edu/university-teaching-certificate<https://tadp.ucr.edu/university-teaching-certificate>. If you have any questions about the program, or would like more information, please contact J Selke at utc at ucr.edu<mailto:utc at ucr.edu>.

The California Community College Internship Program (CCCIP)<https://grad.uci.edu/professional-development/graduate-postdoctoral-scholar-resource-center/california-community-college-internship-program-cccip/> is a year-long program that provides qualifying graduate students interested in teaching the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience in a community college setting. Participating graduate students will receive mentorship from current community college faculty, focused training and professional development, opportunities for in-classroom observations and teaching experiences, and other experiences aimed at preparing students for a community college faculty career.

Starting in the 2024-2025 academic year, the CCCIP will be open to UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Cruz Ph.D. and M.F.A. students in all disciplines. Students must be enrolled full-time, be in good academic standing, and have advanced to candidacy prior to starting the program in Summer 2024. Interns will receive a $7,500 fellowship for the summer, during which they will engage in specialized training focused on course design, inclusive teaching, and career development.

Application deadline extended for the 2024-2025 CCCIP cohort will close on Wednesday, April 17th at 5:00 pm. Application available here: https://tadp.ucr.edu/uciccc-internship
