Graduate Student Assistant Position

Job Summary

            The School of Education is seeking to strengthen support for SOE undergraduate students to be community-ready and equity centered in their approach to education and careers in human improvement. We are currently looking for one Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) position to support both the Black Community Education Promise (BCEP) and the Fueling the Inland Empire Region with Community Educators (FIERCE) programs.

            Ideal candidates will have experience working with diverse students, strong organizational skills, and a demonstrated ability to identify new or existing student engagement and professional development opportunities for our BCEP and FIERCE Scholars. Applicants will also possess a strong understanding of academic and social engagement opportunities to support students who wish to become teachers, school psychologists, or higher education professionals.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties

The GSA will assist with a range of collaborative activities including but not limited to the following:

  *   Identify new or existing student engagement and professional development opportunities for the BCEP and FIERCE cohorts in 2023-2024;
  *   Match student Scholars with a mentor;
  *   Convening/scheduling the BCEP/FIERCE Scholars Program Working Groups;

  *   Coordinate quarterly lunches with BCEP/FIERCE Scholars, SOE faculty, and leadership;
  *   Collaborate with existing SOE and campus partners;
  *   Work closely with SOE Associate Dean of Strategic Initiatives on overall coordination.


Responsibilities will also include working collaboratively with the Associate Dean and Academic Advisors of Undergraduate Education in the School of Education.


Qualifications and Skills

  *   Operate from an asset framing of communities of color
  *   Experience working with students of any age, in any capacity, preferred
  *   A strong GPA and demonstrated record of high marks
  *   Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  *   Strong organizational skills and ability to work with google drive

Salary/Hours

The GSA will be paid $22-40/hour (TBD based on experience) and can expect to work up to 15 hours per week depending on demand. Schedule will be flexible based on demands on student's time as well. Note: this is an hourly position (no tuition remission).
