Dear SOE Graduate Students:

The SOE is now accepting applications for associate-instructor positions for Spring 2023. Applications require a cover letter indicating prior teaching experience, CV/resume and any additional documentation you feel is pertinent to express your teaching expertise (ex: teaching evaluations).

The application deadline for these positions is 5 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Description of Associate-Instructor: An associate instructor, also known as associate-in, is a registered graduate student who should be competent to work independently and without supervision to conduct the entire instruction of a lower division undergraduate course. The minimal qualifications for appointment to the title associate-in shall be possession of a master’s degree or equivalent training and at least one year of teaching experience. Assignment to conduct instruction in an upper division or graduate level course may not be made except with the approval of the Committee on Courses.

The following is a list of open sections:

EDUC 024 – Inequality in Educational Opportunity and Achievement
Modality: In-Person
Units: 4.0
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3:20 pm.
The course also includes the support of up to three teaching assistants to run discussion sections and provide other instructional support.
Preferred qualifications: experience as a teaching assistant in EDUC 024 or similar Education course.

EDUC 093-001 – First Year Seminar – Community of Learners
Modality: In-Person
Units: 1.0
Schedule: Thursdays from 12:1:50 pm
The course also includes the support of one Reader to assist with grading.
Preferred qualifications: Familiarity with the University of California, Riverside (UCR) campus and its resources for undergraduate students.  Specifically, the learning options during the academic year and summers, such as on-and-off campus research and community engagement opportunities.

EDUC 281 – History of Educational Policy and Reform
Modality: In-Person
Units: 4.0
Schedule: Tuesdays from 4:30-7:20 pm
Preferred qualifications:  Familiarity with course content per the course description.  Previous experience as a lead-instructor.


Additional Information: EDUC 024 and EDUC 281 are both 4.0 units courses and therefore a 50% appointment.  The 50% associate-instructor appointment will also include tuition and fee remissions.  Please note that EDUC 093C is a 1.0 unit-course and therefore a 12.5% appointment and it is not eligible by itself for tuition and fee remissions, however there will still be monthly salary prorated for the percentage appointment.
