Hello PI's,
I wanted to highlight a few things you could start to work on before your Safety Evaluation by Pam See @<mailto:ehs at ucr.edu>EHS that will make the process a bit smoother for everyone.
1) All PI's must have a valid/updated LHAT. You can access/start this through the Risk and Safety Solutions portal (RSS) Risk & Safety Solutions (ucop.edu)<https://ehs.ucop.edu/>
UCOP - Risk & Safety Solutions<https://ehs.ucop.edu/>
You need to enable JavaScript to run this app. Risk & Safety Solutions. You need to enable JavaScript to run this app.
ehs.ucop.edu
This is where Pam will see your lab location(s), who is registered in your lab and what training they need/have completed based upon the hazards indicated.
Minimum Required online training for everyone:
Laboratory Safety Fundamentals
Hazardous Materials & Waste Management
Fire Extinguishers
2) Lab Safety Notebook Documentation:
-SOPs (that they are available, reviewed, and signed by the people in the lab)
-Chemical Hygiene Plan (there is an updated version that can be downloaded and printed, but this also must be reviewed and signed).
-Biosafety manual if you have a BUA (not all the labs have one)
-Field Safety Plan (not all the labs need one but template is attached for those that need it). If anyone in your lab does any sort of field work. You NEED it but you can check the requirements here: https://ehs.ucr.edu/laboratory/field

Safely working and conducting research outdoors, off-campus, and abroad. For more information or questions, please contact Pamela See at EH&S at (951) 827-5528.

-Training records ( this is recommended but not required as she can access them online, but often, they get "lost" in the system so I suggest just printing them for proof)
3) Door Placards
At the entrance of each lab, you should have an updated door placard. This is the Campus Emergency Contact Information System. This need to be updated at least yearly. You can access your placards to update them here:
