Dear Colleagues, Students, and Community Partners,

I am writing to invite you to two events next week that will inaugurate our new Center for Latino and Latin American Studies Research at UCR.

The first is a soft-launch for the Center on Tuesday, February 23 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. This brief event is aimed at our faculty, graduate students and community partners to give them a sense of what the Center will have to offer them. At the launch we will go over the Center's vision, structure, research projects, and funding opportunities for faculty and students. We will also introduce the new board.  Assuming that we open up in the Fall of 2021, we will have a larger and public inauguration ceremony with food and entertainment to celebrate this achievement for our University.

Secondly, I also want to invite you to our inaugural event on "Precarious Work, Covid-19, and Latino Immigrant Workers" in the United States on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.  This bilingual event will bring together leading experts on Latino migrant labor and contemporary neoliberalism from UCR, USC, UNAM, and the London School of Economics.

Please share fliers for both events with your students and colleagues.
