“Natural Sciences Research Programs in the Academy of Sciences 
            of Moldova and the Institute of Zoology”

Background:  UC Riverside has had a Partnership Program with
Moldova State University and the Institute of Zoology, Academy
of Sciences of Moldova, since 1999.  This program was
originally started in UCR Extension and funded by the Cultural
Affairs Office of the US State Department.  There have been 50
UCR/MSU researcher exchanges, four UCR undergraduate student
exchanges, two UCR graduate student exchanges and three MSU
graduate student exchanges since 1999.  In addition to
University Extension, the Departments of Nematology,
Environmental Sciences, Biology, Botany and Plant Sciences and
the Anderson Graduate School of Management have participated
in this program and have hosted Moldovan scientists and
students.  By June 2007, three Moldovan students will have
received their MBAs from UCR.  There have been at least 15
collaborative research publications from this collaboration. 
The Rector of MSU is unable to attend, so Dr. Toderas
(Co-PI UCR/MSU Partnership Grant) will also be representing
Moldova State University and will be exploring further
collaborations between UCR and Moldovan Academy of Sciences.
