As you may have heard by now, the rubber burning smell in the building on 
Friday was due to the toasted belts that drive the main air handler for 
Spieth Hall (north wing only).  Physical Plant mechanics attempted to 
replace the belts Friday evening but, discovered the main bearing on the 
fan shaft had self-destroyed (most likely the cause of the burnt belts from 
the increased load).  Therefore, the air handler was left off over night.

Physical Plant HVAC mechanics returned this morning to dismantle the air 
handler and install a replacement bearing.  The work is currently underway 
and, barring unforeseen complications, the work should be completed by mid 
afternoon.
