Good Morning,

Please see the attached flier with information on an upcoming film screening of Black Men in White Coats. This film dissects the systemic barriers preventing black men from becoming medical doctors and the consequences on society at large.

A recent UCLA study<https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11606-021-06745-1> found that the proportion of physicians who are Black in the U.S. has remained essentially unchanged since 1940. In 2018, about 13% of the U.S. population was Black, but only 5.4% of physicians were Black. The documentary Black Men in White Coats seeks to increase the number of Black men in the field of medicine by bringing awareness to the issue.

On Thursday, November 4th at 10am, L.A. Care will host a live online panel discussion of the film. Dr. Deborah Deas, Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and Dean of the UCR School of Medicine will be a panelist.

Thanks,

Jakquelyn Sullivan
