This list will contain news of interest to students who are interested in preparing for admission to the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences. We'll send out news of upcoming events, information on service opportunities, clubs, scholarships, summer opportunities, and other ways to become a more attractive candidate for the program. Please note that the UCR/UCLA Thomas Haider Program in Biomedical Sciences (also known as "Biomed") no longer has an undergraduate component. We still offer UCR students an outstanding opportunity to attend the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Twenty-four students are accepted each year into the Biomed program (usually after graduation from UCR) and complete the first two years of their medical education here on the UCR campus. They then move seamlessly to UCLA for the final two years of clinical rotations and electives, eventually graduating with an MD from UCLA. Because the applicant pool is restricted to UCR students only, it is significantly smaller than the applicant pools at other UC medical schools and those around the country. This is a unique opportunity for a student to receive an outstanding medical education in a small learning community with unparalleled personal attention.
