Good afternoon, all.

As mentioned at our last Senior Communicators meeting, University Communications and Alumni Engagement have partnered to develop and launch a new alumni recognition program this year featuring 40 of our exceptional alumni under the age of 40. The program goal is to identify, cultivate, engage, and celebrate accomplished, early-career UCR alumni in a variety of professional fields to help build overall institutional pride, to build a pipeline of alumni supporters, volunteers, advocates, and influencers, and to enhance our Beyond Brilliant campaign storytelling content.

Over the next few weeks, please help us identify and recognize UCR’s best and brightest graduates by promoting awareness of this program among your colleagues and key stakeholders, and by submitting one or more nominations. When making submissions please consider our commitment to reflecting the diversity of UCR’s alumni within the final candidate pool (demographic, geographic, field/discipline, college affiliations, etc.).

Additional nominees are in the process of being sourced from UCOMM, Development, and Alumni team members, past Alumni Awards of Distinction nominees and honorees, and recommendations from the UCR Constituent Research and Development team.

Selection Criteria:
•             Must be under 40 as of July 1, 2022.
•             Demonstrated professional achievement. (Works in leadership role or has been recognized at a large, brand-name company (e.g. Google, NY Times, professional sports leagues, etc.)
•             Demonstrated community involvement and service with widespread impact.
•             Demonstrated leadership. (Founded, co-founded, or played a significant role in a new business and/or startup. Elevated to an executive-level position within a company within first 5 years.)
•             Published work or art that is recognized nationally or internationally.
•             Conducted significant research within a given field, or have received national or international recognition for career achievements.
•             Achieved celebrity status or social influence through digital platforms (more than a hundred thousand followers).

The nomination period is open from October 5, 2021, through January 14, 2022. Please use this nomination form<https://myadv.ucr.edu/forms/40_under_40> to submit your confidential recommendations. We ask that you embargo nominees’ names until the final list is published. The final list of nominees will be determined in late January, and the results will be shared across all university and school-based communications platforms, including as a special feature in the spring 2022 issue of the magazine. Development relationship managers will also be notified prior to any outreach to alumni finalists.
