The Golden ARCHES (Advocating Responsible Choices through Health Education
and Support) Peer Health Education program and the CHAMPS/Life Skills
program are proud to announce the next speaker of their 2008-09 Educational
Speaker Series:
Wednesday, April 22nd
7:00 PM
University Lecture Hall
Dr. Robin Sawyer presents: "Playing the Game: Sexuality & Communication"
Dr. Robin Sawyer is a professor in the School of Public Health at the
University of Maryland, and for the past 22 years has educated thousands of
students with frank, straightforward talk about sex. His Human Sexuality
course is one of the most popular classes at UMD, and Dr. Sawyer's candid,
humorous approach to sex education has attracted national attention with
appearances on the Today Show, The Tyra Banks Show, MTV and in the
Washington Post.
Dr. Sawyer has recently published a book, SEXPERTISE: Real Answers to Real
Questions About Sex (Simon & Schuster), where he takes the most-asked
questions about sex from his students over the years, and provides
straightforward answers for the masses. With what the Today Show calls
"straight talk with a healthy dose of humor," Sawyer answers all the
questions, both weird and wonderful. Scientifically accurate yet honest,
entertaining and useful, SEXPERTISE does for Generation X and Y what
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex did for baby boomers, all with
Dr. Sawyer's trademark wit and warm personality.
Dr. Sawyer has spoken on over 300 college campuses, and focuses primarily on
issues related to communication and sexuality, particularly as they relate
to sexual assault and date rape. Although his presentation is both engaging
and humorous, it is also extremely meaningful and is guaranteed to stimulate
thought and meaningful discussion about what is traditionally a very
difficult topic.
This program is also part of UCR's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Remember
April 22nd is also Denim Day, so wear your denim in support of raising
awareness that regardless of what somebody is wearing, NOBODY ever asks for
or deserves to be sexually assaulted.
