Generator Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium) From approximately 9:00 a.m. to 10:10 a.m. today the VCSA server farm experienced a network failure that disrupted the following services:
VCSA Department Web sites, Sharepoint Sites, Terminal Servers/Thin Clients, and all our Web applications, such as MyUCR, Orientation, Schedule of classes, tours, etc. All in all, about 80 Web sites and 40 third part applications were not in service during this hour.
Although this was the first major failure that we experienced in over 3 years, I want you to know that we are working hard to improve your computing environment' s reliability even further. Later next year, we will be relocating your VCSA server farm (about 70 servers) to C&C' s communication building where they will have access to better network availability, redundant air conditioning supply, and access to a back-up power generator which would protect against power outages and brownouts.
Respectfully,
Rick Nornholm Director, Technology Services Vice Chancellor Student Affairs University of California Hinderaker Hall, B110 900 University Avenue Riverside, CA 92521 (951) 827-7877 vcsa-staff.ucr.edu/tech.htm
