[Vcsa-announcements] Invitation to participate in open forum with Director of Learning Center Candidate

Interested faculty, administrators, staff and students are invited to 
participate in an open forum with Dr. Geoff Cohen, our first candidate 
for the position of Director of the Learning Center on Tuesday, May 17, 
2005, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in Terrace Room B of the University 
Commons.

Dr. Cohen earned his Ph.D and M.A. in English from the University of 
California, Riverside and his B.A. from Columbia University.  He has 
served as Academic Coordinator for CHASS Connect Freshman Experience 
Program and Liberal Studies and Interdisciplinary Programs for the past 
two years and served as a lecturer and as a Visiting Assistant 
Professor in the Department of English at UCR during the period between 
1996 to the present.

  The Director of the Learning Center is responsible to provides vision 
and leadership in design, organization, development, marketing and 
implementation of centralized, comprehensive, innovative academic 
support and first-year experience programs and services that facilitate 
students curricular and co-curricular successes.  The Director works 
with faculty, administrative, staff and student leaders to build 
consensus as to the most effective ways to support successful student 
learning.  S/he supervises 16.83 permanent FTE and many casual and 
student assistants, including hiring, training, evaluation, and 
corrective action as needed; and oversees departmental operating 
budgets of just over $1,000,000 involving multiple fund sources and 
types of funds.
