PROPOSAL DEADLINE : Wednesday October 28 11:59PM.
Submit your proposal here<https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=xCpim6aGnUGbnr-zP0XAVHxix5UaKwRNmgbevO28hYFUMk1GMTJBTlVXWjkyRjI1T1dHQTFVQUFLNy4u&route=shorturl>.

The Summit will take place on Friday, November 8th, 2024, from 9 am - 4 pm. Location TBA.

We welcome and encourage all presentation topics, keeping in mind the needs of First-Generation in College students (https://firstgen.naspa.org/why-first-gen). Listed here are the learning outcomes we have for the summit. We encourage you to use these for your proposal.

  * Self-Authorship 1: Students will be able to describe their personal responsibility for their values and beliefs through continuous self-reflection and exploration.
  * Self-Authorship 3: Students will articulate their personal responsibility for their identities and lived experiences and engage in discussions involving perspectives different from their own.
  * Self-Authorship 4: Students will be able to explore and create learning experiences that will enhance their personal and professional development.
  * First-Gen 1: First-generation summit participants will be able to articulate a sense of belonging by meeting and building community with one or more first-generation student and/or staff.

There are many opportunities for presentation topics; some examples to get you started:

  * Asking for Help / How to Advocate for your Needs
  *   Working through Imposter Phenomenon
  *   Agency in Finding Resources
  * Communicating with Faculty and Staff
  * Why / How to / Strategies to Get Involved in...
     *   Research
     *   Leadership Positions
     *   Civic Engagement, etc.
  *   Developing Confidence

We are looking for presentations that have our example topics as a focal point, rather than an overview of a department. However, we are not discouraging presenters to talk about resources within their office or field that are related to those topics. The committee is very flexible with what a faculty or staff member would like to present as long as it’s beneficial and focal to first-generation students’ needs and success. As department, if you have resources you would like to infuse and weave above themes into your presentation, we highly encourage that!

If you have any questions, please feel free to send them to kelsey.shook at ucr.edu<mailto:kelsey.shook at ucr.edu>
