UnitedHealthcare – Data Breach on February 6, 2024

On February 6, 2024, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) detected suspicious activities involving their rewards program. The UHC rewards program offers eligible members incentives for completing certain health goals and/or activities through pre-paid debit cards. The investigation revealed that an individual employed by one of their service providers was using member accounts to generate fraudulent rewards and secure debit cards for personal financial gain.

UHC confirmed the fraud took place between July 26, 2023, and February 7, 2024. There were 14 UC Medicare Choice members impacted and UHC will send each of them a breach notification and reference guide and a sample of this communication can be viewed at: https://live-ucr-retirees.pantheonsite.io/document/unitedhealthcare-data-breach-3282024. Tampered demographic data include names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security Numbers, Member and Medicare ID numbers, Group/policy numbers and/or names, and Medical and prescription claims information.

UnitedHealthcare is offering a one-year of complimentary LifeLock Standard™ identity theft protection services at no cost. Members can contact UHC at 1 (866) 887-9533 with questions.
