The UCR Retirees’ (UCRRA) and Emeriti (UCREA) Associations invites you to attend the upcoming Edward A. Dickson Emeritus/a Lecture Talk Series. Each year three retired UCR faculty are awarded Edward A. Dickson Professorships to support their research, teaching, or public service activities. In the year following their awards, Dickson Professors give public presentations of their work. Dickson awardee Juan Felipe Herrera’s lecture is sponsored by the UCR Emeriti Association and Retirees’ Association, UCR Departments of Dance and Creative Writing and UCR Osher.

Description
HANDFUL OF GRAVEL is a live performance of US Poet Laureate Emeritus Juan Felipe Herrera's poetry about the War in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic. It features music, dance, voice, and screen imagery created by Herrera with a cast of performers who include UCR students and faculty. Departing from previous conceptions of poetry, this production presents poems as dynamic planes directly entangled in dance transmissions and vocal exchange within a radical field in global space. It proposes that all things are related and influence each other.

Priority seating is given to members of the UCR Retirees’ and Emeriti Associations who register by April 11, 2023 on the Retirement Center webpage.
