The UCR Osher Program invites retirees and emeriti to the Jane Austen’s Book Club which will be offered in person starting in April 2022 at two locations. Course description, meeting locations and times are listed below.

Jane Austen’s Book Club

·        UCR Palm Desert location: There will be six meetings starting on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 through Tuesday, May 10, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at a course fee of $55.


·        UCR Extension (University Village) location: There will be six meetings starting on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 through Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at a course fee of $55.

Course Description
In this course, we will read and discuss Jane Austen’s six published novels as well as touch upon her juvenilia, bringing in, as the course progresses, the biographical, literary, and historical contexts that lie beneath her work. Austen writes eloquently about social relations and the contradictions and hypocrisies of human thought and behavior. Her acute observations have kept her novels relevant since their publication. You are encouraged to read each novel before the class meeting in which it will be discussed. Any complete and unabridged version is acceptable, including downloadable, electronic versions, as long as they are not abridged.
