Dear UCR Emerita and Emeritus Colleagues,

The Council of UC Emeriti Associations (CUCEA) is conducting its triennial survey of emeriti and we are writing to ask for your participation. This is our tenth study of this kind.

As many of you know from first-hand experience, people may have 'retired,' but they stay active in their communities as well as in their professional roles. Many continue to do work in their academic/professional fields by teaching classes, doing research and serving as mentors. They also give of their time and experience through their volunteer work in their communities. If you consider the entire UC emeriti population, it numbers more than 6,000 people and the aggregate contributions that emeriti are making to society are truly impressive.

The last time we did this project, we covered academic years 2015-18. The report on that survey, entitled "A Virtual Eleventh Campus," provided impressive evidence that, collectively, the work of UC emeriti can be seen as equivalent to a separate, sizable university. We have good reason to believe that this study and the report were helpful in our advocacy efforts to preserve the retirement benefits that we receive. We expect that this current project will be valuable for these purposes as well.

Now we want to bring this project up to date, this time covering academic years 2018-2021. Please take a few moments and complete this survey. It can be done online (no postage or mailing concerns) and it should take less than 10 minutes. You are serving your interests when you do this.
