WEX - Flexible Spending Accounts “Blackout Period” Ends – 2020 Carryover Funds Now Available for Claims Processing
The WEX “blackout period” shared in previous communications<https://hr.ucr.edu/sites/g/files/rcwecm656/files/2021-07/wex-correction-to-mid-year-confirmation-statement-and-blackout-period-extension-to-6.15.2021.pdf> has been lifted. As a result, the Health Flexible Spending Account 2020 carryover balances are available to participants who can now file claims for both the Health FSA and DepCare accounts.

WEX will send a custom electronic message directly to participants with an update on the status of their accounts. While the great majority of participants’ accounts have been verified as accurate; UCOP continues to work with WEX and WageWorks to correct those records that continue to have outstanding issues.

For individuals with a 2020 carryover balance of at least $25 but who did not elect to contribute to the Health FSA in 2021, WEX has sent an e-mail with instructions on how to create and log in to a WEX online account. In the account, the individual’s 2021 election will be listed as “$0” since they are not contributing to this plan year. Debit cards will be delivered within 10 working days to these participants.

If the individual is retiring on or before July 31, 2021, they will not receive a debit card, however, they can still obtain reimbursement for eligible expenses incurred up to one month after their separation date by submitting claims online, through the app or by mail.
