New association will boost ties with Laos, Cambodia

HA NOI — The Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia Economic Co-operation and Development Association was launched in Ha Noi yesterday. It has a membershift of 500 organisations, individuals and enterprises.

The association, which aims to help members build economic and investment ties with neighbouring, Laos and Cambodia will also collect feedback on strategies, policies or administrative reforms in the region.

The group’s four-year action plan includes forums and trade fairs where members can exchange information and experience, consultation services and legal-support for enterprises and investors.

The number of association members is expected to reach 1,000 by 2012.

Former Planning and Investment Minister Lai Quang Thuc was voted as chairman of the association. Thuc was also a former member of a group of senior economic experts employed by the Government to co-operate with Laos. — VNS
