Film screening: The Plastic Killers
Date: Tue 29 January 2008

The Plastic Killers is a new documentary (August 2007) which
investigates the 2004 assassination of Cambodian union leader Chea
Vichea and how two innocent men, Born Samnang and Sok Sam
Oeun, were
framed for the crime.

The screening of the film will be followed by a panel discussion
including an Amnesty researcher on South East Asia (to be
confirmed).

About Chea Vichea

Chea Vichea, President of Free Trade Union of Workers (FTU),
was shot
dead on 22 January 2004 in a contract-style killing at a
newsstand in
central Phnom Penh after receiving a series of death threats. Chea
Vichea was a well-known trade union leader who championed workers'
rights in Cambodia's burgeoning garment industry.

Human Rights groups, including Amnesty International, believe that
the true perpetrators of the murder of Chea Vichea remain at
large.
