Beginning Wednesday, September 16, 2026, all Highlanders connecting to Zoom
must use version 7.1.5 (or newer) to join or host meetings.

Dear Highlander,

Reliable, secure collaboration is vital to instruction, research, and
day-to-day operations across campus. Ahead of the fall quarter, UC
Riverside will establish a minimum version requirement for Zoom Workplace
to better protect university communications.

Beginning Wednesday, September 16, 2026, all Highlanders connecting to Zoom
must use version 7.1.5 (or newer) to join or host meetings.
Why This Update Matters

Zoom recently identified security vulnerabilities affecting desktop and
mobile clients across its platform. While campus devices benefit from UCR’s
security toolset, establishing a minimum version requirement ensures our
virtual classrooms, research collaborations, administrative meetings, and
other virtual collaboration sessions remain safeguarded against known
risks.
What to Expect

Please note that if your Zoom application is below version 7.1.5 on
September 16, you will not be able to start or participate in Zoom meetings
until the app is updated. Updating now will help ensure the first week of
the quarter goes smoothly. If your device is managed by ITS through Secured
Device Services (SDS), rest assured that your Zoom Workplace application
will be updated for you.
Steps to Take

Please follow the guidance below based on how your device is managed:
University-managed Devices

For faculty, staff, and student employees with a device that is supported
by ITS SDS or your collegiate IT department, Zoom Workplace is scheduled to
update automatically. If your computer does not update before September 16
or prompts you for administrator credentials, please contact your
departmental IT lead or BearHelp for assistance.
Self-Managed and Personal Devices

If you are a student using a personal device or have administrative access
to download applications and make changes to your device, please complete
the steps below to verify and update your version manually:

   1.

Open the Zoom Workplace application on your device and, if prompted,
sign in using your UCR NetID credentials.
   2.

Click your profile icon or initials in the top-right corner of the
   window.
   3.

Select Check for Updates from the dropdown menu.
   4.

If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to install
version 7.1.5 or the latest available release.

If you use Zoom Workplace on your phone, simply visit the Apple App Store
or Google Play Store to update the Zoom Workplace app.
