Dear Highlander,
We are contacting you today because our records indicate that you are a
current or former user of ArcMap / ArcGIS Desktop at UC Riverside. This
communication is to inform you that you may be required to take action by
June 10, 2024 as a response to Esri’s license renewal period and the
discontinuation of ArcMap / ArcGIS Desktop.
Earlier this year Esri placed ArcMap / ArcGIS Desktop on mature support,
with the product reaching end of life in early 2026. Starting July 1, 2024,
Esri will no longer issue new or renewed licenses for ArcMap / ArcGIS
Desktop. However, as UCR’s license renewal date is June 10, 2024, Esri will
allow current ArcMap users at UCR to renew their annual licenses prior to
June 10. No licenses for new users will be issued.
ArcMap has been replaced with ArcGIS Pro. Many of our users have already
made the switch to ArcGIS Pro and have adapted to the new platform;
however, it is critical for remaining users to determine their path forward
for the next 12 months.
Action Needed:
-
If you are a current user of ArcMap/ArcGIS Desktop, you are strongly
encouraged to migrate to ArcGIS Pro as soon as possible. You can access
ArcGIS Pro by following the instructions here
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sys_id=63d8ebef93284ad407c0b1597bba102f>.
-
Please review the supplemental materials provided by Esri to guide you
through this transition. Esri has created a guide
<https://www.esri.com/en-us/arcgis/products/arcgis-pro/resources/migrate>
to assist ArcMap users in migrating to ArcGIS Pro. They also
provide support
and resources
<https://www.esri.com/en-us/industries/higher-education/roles/educators/modern-gis>
to academics who have decided to integrate more modern forms of GIS into
their teaching.
-
If you choose to continue to utilize ArcMap / ArcGIS Desktop for the
coming year, you must request a renewal of your license prior to June
10, 2024 by completing this form
<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=sc_cat_item&sys_id=9cc6aefb0fadcb40138942bce1050ee3>.
Please be mindful that a later transition to ArcGIS Pro may be needed once
the renewal of your license expires.
