Dear User,
*This is a reminder that after April 30, 2022, you will no longer be able
to log into Office 365 using basic authentication*.
*What is basic authentication?*
This means that you may have applications and/or mobile devices that rely
only on username and password to connect to Office 365 services.
*Why is this change taking place?*
As the name implies, basic authentication is basic and, therefore, not
secure enough to meet UCR’s information security standards. As a result,
UCR is mandated by the UC Office of the President to disable basic
authentication.
*How will my user experience change?*
EMERITI & RETIREES
ALL OTHER UCR USERS
Emeriti and retirees will still be able to access their email via a web
browser by visiting https://outlook.com/ucr.edu. Email access via web
browser will not change and is the recommended way to access O365
email. Emeriti and retirees are *not* required to authenticate via UCR DUO.
After April 30, 2022, you must connect using a modern two-step
authentication method that requires the use of your username, password, and
secondary authentication via UCR DUO

.
After April 30, 2022, anyone using a version of Outlook that is older than
Outlook 2016 will need to update the Outlook email client to a newer
version in order to continue accessing email via the client. Similarly,
anyone trying to access email on their computer or phone via an outdated
connection (i.e., IMAP, POP, or SMTP) will need to remove their email
account and then re-add it using a modern connection. Email access via web
browser will not change and is the recommended way to access O365 email.
