Good afternoon, everyone. This program is a good opportunity to learn about
the resources and opportunities for research at the nearby Huntington
Library, whose collections include the papers of author Octavia E. Butler.
I hope you'll participate at the event.

Dear Colleagues,
Drs. Steve Hackel and Jeanette Kohl at Center for Ideas and Society will be
bringing Susan Juster, Director of Research for the Huntington, along with
two curators, for an orientation to the Huntington and its fellowship
application process.
The event will be held at the Stable on October 1 from 3 - 5 PM. The
fellowship application deadline is November 15.
There will be food and drinks and good company; they are hoping to see as
many of you as possible! Please consider attending - the archival
collections there are extraordinary, both very broad as well as very in
depth.
Take care,
Jim

"We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize
our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land,
water, and air: the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples and all
of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today
this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over
the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful
to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands."
Begin forwarded message:
Susan Juster, Director of Research at the Huntington, and her team as well
as two curators will be coming to UCR for what we are calling an Open
House. Susan will talk about the Huntington and hopefully demystify the
application process for fellowships. We think that this is going to be of
interest to many graduate students and faculty in English given the breadth
of the Huntington’s collections and the large number of fellowships the HEH
gives out each year.
Susan and her team will also talk about programming and research at the
Huntington.
We wanted to hold this Open House before the 11/15 application deadline for
fellowships, and we landed on 10/1. We realize that this does not allow
much time to spread the word so we are hoping that you can push this out to
all of your colleagues and students in CHASS. (I also realized late in the
game that 10/1 is the first night of Yom Kippur, but we should end by
around 5:00. I will head home after the program myself.)
Here is a link to the event registration, which would be appreciated but is
not required.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Stable on Oct. 1.
There will be food and drinks, so please come and mingle!
All the best,
Steve
