Hi everyone,

At the suggestion of some graduate students enrolled in the Speculative
Fiction & Cultures of Science emphasis, we're convening to talk about some
shared reading later this quarter. On *Tuesday, November 23*, and *Tuesday,
November 30*, join us in *INTS 1109* at *5:00p.m.* to talk about comics,
starting with *On A Sunbeam* by Tillie Walden. You can read this entire
comic for free online at onasunbeam.com.

Ph.D. student Leslie Fernandez describes *On A Sunbeam* thus:

Tillie Walden’s *On a Sunbeam* tells the story of Mia, the latest addition
to the ship of a restoration crew tasked with traveling the deepest reaches
of space to repair the broken and abandoned remnants of long-forgotten
civilizations. Five years earlier, Mia was the newest student at a boarding
where she struggles to fit in until she meets fellow troublemaker, Grace.
The graphic novel traverses back and forth between these two times
exploring the tribulations of young romance, and the importance of found
family all within a gorgeous and uniquely surrealistic art style.

If you'd like to join but you can't make it in person, please reply to
andrc at ucr.edu and I'll create a Zoom link so we can have discussion in
hybrid format.

See you there,
