Good morning all,
The Research Librarians Cohort of the Comics Studies Society is hosting a virtual forum session titled "Accessing Comics - Blind/Low Vision Comics" on October 22, 2024 at 11am PST.
Link to Register (Free Event): https://SDSU.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcsfuigrD4oHNSWLlcRGzo0oc6ZqCsiXfVg<https://sdsu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcsfuigrD4oHNSWLlcRGzo0oc6ZqCsiXfVg>.
This roundtable is hosted by the Research Librarians Cohort and is designed to bring a variety of perspectives on accessible comics, non-visual comics, and multimodal comics as well as graphic narratives about disability. Presenters will include advice for how libraries and librarians can connect readers with accessible comics. We will use a mix of academic, creative, and librarian experiences to inform the discussion. Roundtable participants will include Nick Sousanis and Emily Beitiks (Accessible Comics Collective<https://spinweaveandcut.com/blind-accessible-comics/> at San Francisco State University), Joanne Pak (Audiobook Producer, Instructor, CNIB, TMU); and JJ Pionke (Instructor of Information at Syracuse University). Moderated by Jason Larsen (Comics Studies Librarian, Michigan State University).
This event is free and open to all so please feel free to share with interested colleagues.
Best,
Andrew

"Reality is that which when you stop believing in it, it doesn't go away."
-Philip K. Dick; Valis
We at UCR would like to respectfully acknowledge and recognize our responsibility to the original and current caretakers of this land, water, and air: the Cahuilla [ka-wee-ahh], Tongva [tong-va], Luiseño [loo-say-ngo], and Serrano [se-ran-oh] peoples and all of their ancestors and descendants, past, present, and future. Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
