[Sfts-faculty] [UC Riverside] Unarchiving Blackness Symposium May 26

Dear friends, colleagues, and neighbors:

We're excited to invite you to the Unarchiving Blackness Symposium
<https://events.ucr.edu/event/UBSpring23> on *Friday, May 26*, the final
event in the Mellon Sawyer Seminar at UC Riverside
<http://ideasandsociety.ucr.edu/unarchiving-blackness> on the creative
reconsideration of archives in African & African Diaspora Studies.

The symposium is *free and open to the public*. It will take place on
campus at CHASS Interdisciplinary Building North, *INTS 1113*. Lunch and
refreshments will be served.

The day's events will include:

A welcome at 9:15a.m. from the director of the *Center for Ideas & Society*
, *Dylan Rodriguez* (Media & Cultural Studies/Black Study).

Our *keynote speaker*, public historian *Tsione Wolde-Michael*, Executive
Director of the President's Committee on the Arts & Humanities, delivering
an address on the practice of *Restorative History *(9:30a.m.)

A roundtable on *Race, Technology, and Archival Futures *(11:15a.m.)
featuring

   - *Kim Butler *of Rutgers University
   - *Kenton Ramsby* from the University of Texas, and
   - *Ra Malika Imhotep* from UC Berkeley

Lunch on campus

An *emerging scholarship panel* (1:45p.m.) with

   - Unarchiving Blackness postdoctoral fellow *Abdulbasit Kassim* (Religious
   Studies) on *ecologies of knowledge in non-Europhone African archives*
   - graduate researchers *Utitofon Inyang* (Comparative Literature)
on *de/fragmentation
   in African & Diaspora Art & Literature*, and
   - *Grecia Perez* (Anthropology) on *water as an archive in Indigenous
   and Afro-Mexican communities of Oaxaca*

At 3:15p.m. *reflections* from the Seminar faculty
