Dear all,

Happy May! I hope the 4th was with you, etc.

A couple of exciting acquisitions this month, fresh from the NYC Antiquarian Book Fair:

  *
Enrique Gaspar y Rimbau, El Anacronópete [The Time Ship]. 1887. This is a first edition of the first Western (Spanish-language) novel to feature a time machine, published eight years before H. G. Wells' vision of the technology!

  * Elizbeth Jane Howard, Three Miles Up and Other Strange Stories. Tartarus Press, 1951. A rare book of weird fiction by a British novelist - accompanied by a letter describing possible adaptation for radio.

This weekend sees the Nebula Awards Conference, which I'll be presenting at; there are still some scholarships available for both online and in-person attendance<https://nebulas.sfwa.org/nebula-scholarships-and-sponsorships/>, so do check them out if you're interested!

Warmth and light,

Phoenix

Recommended book of the month: Kushiel's Dart, Jacqueline Carey (2001)

Today this meeting place is home to many Indigenous peoples from all over the world, including UCR faculty, students, and staff, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these homelands.
